Release notes
Changelog
Every JellyBar release — what changed and why. Newest first.
New
- Hidden-item count on the chevron — see how many icons are tucked away at a glance (toggle in Behavior).
- Choose your chevron icon — double chevron, single chevron, arrow, bullet, or line.
- Optional update notifications — a banner when a new version is available, alongside the menu-bar indicator.
- Permissions panel — Accessibility and Screen Recording status at a glance in Settings, with one-click enable.
- Quick links in About — Website, Support, Privacy, and What's New.
- Color-coded Settings tabs.
- A Quit button right inside Settings.
Improved
- Backups are now scoped per Mac — each Mac keeps its own layouts, iCloud no longer mixes machines, and each Mac only deletes its own backups.
- The Backups list opens instantly, even with many iCloud-synced backups.
Fixed
- The Settings window could open behind other apps.
- A brief flash of generic icons right after revealing hidden items.
- Backup cleanup counts and previews are now accurate, and backup timestamps are correct regardless of your region's calendar.
Initial public release.
Organize your menu bar
- Sort your menu bar icons into an Active section (always visible) and a Hidden section, divided by a chevron — tuck away the clutter, keep what matters.
- Arrange everything by drag-and-drop in a visual Settings editor. JellyBar keeps the order you set, and quietly absorbs icons you ⌘-drag in the bar itself.
Reveal & hide
- Reveal hidden icons on hover or click, with an adjustable hover delay so a casual mouse sweep doesn't pop the bar.
- Auto-hide again after a delay you choose; new icons always start visible so nothing silently disappears.
Spacers & spacing
- Insert small, medium, or large gaps — and bold bullet dots — to group your icons exactly how you like.
- Fine-tune the spacing between all menu bar items with a single slider.
Backups & restore
- Every layout change is backed up automatically and mirrored to iCloud Drive.
- Restore any previous arrangement with one click, preview before you restore, pin manual snapshots that never expire, and import/export layouts as files.
Real menu-bar icons (optional)
- Grant Screen Recording and each item shows its own true icon instead of a generic colored app icon — so look-alike items become distinct. Completely optional, on-demand only, and everything stays on your Mac.
Built to be reliable
- Honest, at-a-glance status so you always know what JellyBar just did.
- Multi-display aware, and your cursor is restored after every rearrange.
System & updates
- Launch at login, an optional Dock icon, and an optional JellyBar menu-bar icon.
- Automatic updates and one-line Homebrew install. Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple.
